Do your Game Consoles need a Voltage Surge Protector in the Philippines

The most popular gaming option for Filipinos is and will always be mobile phone gaming. If any game is ever popular in the Philippines, it is sure the be a mobile game thus we are such a big market for Mobile Legends, Rules of Survival, Pokemon Go and Clash of Clans. Second to mobile is PC gaming; even in the prevalence of personal internet at home, computer rental shops are still popular and frequented by people who like playing in groups. There are some Filipinos however who play console. As a rare investment, should console gamers in the Philippines also invest in a voltage surge protector?

PS4

The PlayStation 4 is newest in the long popular line of consoles from Sony. Even in the glory days of the PlayStation in the Philippines, the PS1 and the PS2 already had the necessary fuse boxes needed to keep the unit safe and the same design is still used for all of Sony major home consoles. Even so, it is still recommended to use a surge protector because while a fuse does perform the task, it does not do everything that a surge protector does,

Nintendo Switch

While the Wii and the WiiU have built in surge protectors, it is still recommended by Nintendo that the added layer or using a voltage surge protector is still good for your home console and because the Switch is also gaining popularity in the Philippines because it can function as both a home console and a handheld. While the Switch in itself does not have a protector on the console itself, it may have protective components in its extra-large power adapter.

Xbox

While Windows us the most popular OS for computers in the Philippines, not very many Filipinos have Xboxes. Although for owners, this one is a tad bit different entry in this list in that Xbox manufacturers actually discourage the use of a voltage surge protector. Their reason is that the Xbox has its own protector built in but also, adding an external protector interferes with the correct power supply that the console needs. There are some power sensitive functions like the Instant On Mode.

Summary

Unless indicated otherwise, having a volt surge protector will benefits gadgets, especially expensive game consoles, in the Philippines. although most new models already have a layer of protection built in to the hardware, an external volt surge protector is still a good safety blanket for your gaming investment.
